BENGALURU: Buoyed by the grace marks offered by the government, Karnataka SSLC results managed to touch 73.40% this time. Else, the pass percentage in the state in the 2024 exam would have been a meagre 54%.
This is how the SSLC results turned out in the state. As many as 8.59 lakh students took the class 10 exam. In its attempt to bring in integrity in the exam, a new system of webcasting through CCTVs was introduced in all test centres.Malpractice in SSLC exams is otherwise a common secret in the state.
Control rooms were set up in all districts for monitoring the live feed. The department called it a path breaking innovation, restoring the exam integrity and inculcating a habit of writing exams without resorting to unfair practices.
While the move was hailed by educationists, the results plummeted. The pass percentage was 54%, a 30% drop from last year’s 84%. The drastic fall in results forced the government to take up a normalization process “in the interest of students.”
In the normalization process, the qualifying marks for attracting grace marks was reduced from 35% to 25%. Grace marks was increased from 10% to 20% in all subjects. After normalization the pass percentage is reflected as 74%.
